Following six weeks short courses in York, Peel, Durham and Middlesex Counties in 1914, Junior Farmer Improvement Associations were formed. A year later, Junior Institutes came into being. Many of these clubs banded together as County Junior Farmer and Junior Institute Associations. The Junior Farmers' Association of Ontario was organized in April 1944. The museum was a project of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food and was conceived in 1966. Equipment, machines and tools were assembled over the years by Charles Matthews of Langstaff. The Museum closed March 31, 1997 as a result of provincial cost cutting. It later opened under the name The Farm Museum, and then Country Heritage Park.
